Computing Bias

Computing Bias is the systematic and repeatable errors in a system, creating "unfair" outcomes. There are biases written into the algorithms and biases in the data used by an innovation. These biases can cause problems with the user and makes it "unfair" for certain people. There are plenty of examples of biases throughout many electronics made by companies such as alexa and google translate.

Facial recognitions systems are trained on data sets that contain fewer images of women and minorities. Thats one example of computer bias and how technology is unfair. The Amazon smart home system, "Alexa", struggles with saying different accents, which is also computer bias. There is also google translate where it takes gender-neutral languages like Filipino, Chinese, or Turkish. and puts gender biases in the transitions.

How do we stop computer bias? Well, companies and organizations should first make sure that there isn't any inequality or unfairness when it comes to technology such as smart home systems. These problems with technology can cause downfalls of companies as certain groups of people will end up thinking its unfair and disliking it.
